Cyntek offers comprehensive safety services as a stand-alone service or as part of a larger integrated project. Our team of safety experts is well versed in numerous safety standards making it possible to evaluate compliance in an existing facility, or design for compliance on a greenfield project. Typical standards referenced in a Canadian comprehensive safety program may include:

  • ISO 13849-1:2015 – Safety of machinery – Safety-related parts of control systems – Part 1: General principles for design
  • CSA-Z432-16 – Safeguarding of Machinery
  • CSA-Z460-20 – Control of Hazardous Energy – Lockout and Other Methods
  • CSA-Z462-19 – Workplace Electrical Safety
  • CSA-Z434-14 – Industrial robots and robot systems

Pre-Start Health and Safety Reviews

As part of the commissioning process – a set of procedures to check, inspect, and test every aspect of a new or modified system in its final environment prior to start up – Cyntek will conduct a Pre-Start Health and Safety Review, which is done to ensure worker protection as required under the applicable provisions of the Industrial Establishments regulation of the Occupational Health and Safety act.

The intent of a review is to provide practical guidance on ensuring compliance to reduce risks from hazards associated with equipment under evaluation. As part of the review, a senior engineer will conduct a compliance evaluation. A checklist of requirements from the Industrial Establishments regulation under the Occupational Health and Safety Act is completed. Cyntek also utilizes CSA Z432 Safeguarding of Machinery to ensure industry best practices are followed. This checklist is complimented by a meticulously conducted risk assessment that will highlight potential risk or hazard areas. Development of risk reduction and risk control measures is also completed, as to provide guidance on meeting regulation requirements with consideration of other factors including maintainability, cost, and ease of use.
